NHS Unscheduled Urgent Dental Care Appointments

Need urgent dental treatment?

Ambience Dental Practice provides NHS Unscheduled Urgent Dental Care appointments for patients experiencing dental pain, swelling, infection, trauma, or other urgent dental problems.

Our urgent care service is intended to provide assessment and treatment of the immediate problem that has caused you to seek urgent dental care.

Appointments are available subject to clinical priority and capacity.

What conditions may be suitable for an urgent appointment?

You may be eligible for an urgent NHS appointment if you are experiencing:

  • Dental pain that cannot be managed with self-care measures
  • Dental swelling or suspected infection
  • Dental trauma or injury
  • Bleeding following an extraction or dental procedure
  • Broken teeth causing pain or significant discomfort
  • Other urgent dental conditions requiring prompt assessment by a dentist

All patients will be assessed by a clinician who will determine the most appropriate treatment for their immediate dental problem.

What treatment can be provided?

The purpose of an NHS urgent dental appointment is to:

  • Relieve pain
  • Manage infection
  • Stabilise the affected tooth or area
  • Provide emergency treatment where clinically appropriate
  • Advise on any further treatment that may be required

Treatment may include:

  • Examination and diagnosis
  • X-rays where clinically necessary
  • Prescription of medication where appropriate
  • Temporary fillings
  • Emergency extraction where clinically indicated
  • Other urgent measures to address the immediate problem

The exact treatment provided will depend upon the clinical findings and the dentist’s professional judgement.

Important Information for New Patients

Attendance for urgent care does not register you as an NHS patient at the practice

Ambience Dental Practice is currently operating at full NHS capacity and is unable to accept new patients onto its NHS patient list.

If you attend for an NHS urgent dental care appointment, you will be treated for the specific urgent problem for which you have attended. However:

  • You will not be automatically registered as an NHS patient at the practice.
  • You will not be added to our NHS patient list following the appointment.
  • Future routine NHS dental care cannot be guaranteed by the practice.
  • Attendance for an urgent appointment does not create an ongoing NHS dentist-patient relationship.

We believe it is important that patients understand this before booking an appointment.

Ongoing NHS Dental Care

Following your urgent treatment, you may require routine dental examinations, preventive care, fillings, hygiene appointments or other continuing dental treatment.

As we are currently unable to accept additional NHS patients, you may need to seek ongoing NHS dental care elsewhere.

Patients looking for a dentist who is accepting new NHS patients are advised to:

Contact NHS 111

NHS 111 can provide information about NHS dental services in your area and may be able to direct you to practices that are accepting new NHS patients.

You can:

Private Treatment Options

If further treatment is required and NHS appointments are not available, our team can discuss any private treatment options that may be available to you. There is no obligation to proceed with private treatment.

Fees

NHS urgent dental care charges apply in accordance with current NHS regulations unless you qualify for exemption from NHS dental charges.

Our reception team will be happy to explain the current NHS fees and exemption criteria before your appointment.

Our Commitment to You

We understand that dental pain and dental emergencies can be distressing. Our aim is to provide prompt, professional and compassionate care to help resolve your immediate dental problem and ensure you receive appropriate advice regarding any further treatment that may be required.

If you are experiencing severe swelling affecting breathing or swallowing, significant facial trauma, or any other medical emergency, please seek immediate medical assistance by calling 999 or attending your nearest Accident & Emergency Department.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR NEW PATIENTS

This NHS Urgent Dental Care Service is intended to provide assessment and treatment for your immediate dental problem only.

Please note that attendance for an NHS urgent dental appointment does not mean that you will become an NHS patient of Ambience Dental Practice.

Ambience Dental Practice is currently operating at full NHS capacity and is unable to accept new patients onto its NHS patient list.

Patients attending for urgent care will be treated for the specific urgent condition for which they have sought assistance. Any ongoing routine NHS dental care, examinations or future treatment may need to be provided by another NHS dental provider.

If you are seeking a dentist accepting new NHS patients, please contact NHS 111 for information regarding NHS dental services available in your area.
